Jesus Needs Good Leaders (Mt 23:1-12)

Jesus is using the bad leaders of his day to teach what a good leader in the church, and the world should be. But today’s Gospel is more than simply Jesus giving us business principles, He is pleading for our help, for all of us to live up to our baptismal call to be good leaders, to be salt and leaven and to bring His light to the world.

The Key to Interpret Difficult Passages in Old Testament (Mt 22:34-40)

In the gospel today, Jesus gives us the key to interpret the difficult passages of the Old Testament and the church helps us to interpret it, so as to help us not use scripture to do violence and for hate.

The Mass is an Opportunity to Give to God What is God’s (Mt 22:15-21)

Jesus says, give to Caesar what is Caesars and to God what is God’s.  Since we are made in the image and likeness of God, we belong to Him, the Mass is an opportunity for us to give ourselves to God through Jesus Christ.  He makes of us a perfect offering to God the Father.

Come to the Feast As You Are, But Let It Transform You (Mt 22:1-14)

The kingdom of God is likened to a wedding feast, it’s fullness is only in heaven, but even now we’re called to live in the peace and joy of God in the midst of a troubled world. We don’t feel worthy always, and we don’t feel the love the joy and the peace always, but come to the feast as you are, and let it transform you, God will be our strength and our peace and our joy.

Learn from a Plant How to Bear Fruit (Mt 21-43)

In the gospel Jesus uses the metaphor that we should produce fruit. What does it mean to produce fruit in the kingdom of God? And how can we do it? A plant has much to teach us. A healthy plant allows God’s miracle to work through it to produce fruit which brings new life.

Humility is the Antidote to Pride (Mt 21:28-32)

Today’s readings talk about sin. Sin prevents us from experiencing the fullness and freedom of God’s love. So does pride. Let us drive to keep the faith, be humble like Christ, and through our example and fellowship lead others to Christ.
