The Secret of Life: Five Parables About The Wisdom of God (Mt 13:44-52)

Five Parables about wisdom. Three from Jesus and two additional ones, all teaching the secret of life; find something greater than this world to live for and to become who God created us to be. 

Life is a Paradox: To Live Fully is to Die to Self and Live for God (Mt 37-42)

In surrendering to God, what seems like a Sacrifice is rather a blessing. We surrender our will to God, dying to self will, to be more fully alive both in this life, and in the life to come. 

The Power of One Person: For Good or Evil (Mt 10:26-33)

Saint Paul tells us that through one person, sin entered the world, and that sin spread until all had sinned. If one person can have such power in a negative way, one person doing good can also have great power. Jesus Christ is of course, that one person, but we too are that one person as He is asking us now to stand by him and his mission, so that at our judgment, he may stand by us and present us to the Father. 

Do You Think of Yourself as a Priest? Our Common Priesthood (Mt 9:36-10:8)

The church is the new Israel for filling the promise that God would make Israel into a holy nation nation of Priests.  We don’t think of ourselves much as priests, but the concept of exercising our beautiful priesthood every day is beautiful and helpful. 

Feast of Corpus Christi: The Eucharist, Why and How (Jn 6:51-58)

The Eucharist is a source and summit of our faith. It’s both a noun and a verb. It is an exchange between God and humanity. We receive salvation through the presence of Christ in us being made one with Him, and we join ourselves to the perfect sacrifice of Christ, making of us and acceptable offering to God. 

The Holy Spirit Unites by Distributing Different Gifts to Each (Jn 20:19-23)

We receive the Holy Spirit through Jesus. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus. Because of it we are members of His Body. The Church is the Body of Christ on earth. We are made One Body by the One Spirit that gives different gifts to each person so that we are inter-dependent, one upon the other, but together we are His Body. 

Jesus Left Us to Be Nearer to Us : The Ascension (Mt 28:16-20)

The ascension is the forgotten feast, it shows how important the Eucharist is. Jesus has ascended to heaven, but His Body, The  Church made his body through the Eucharist remains on earth continuing the mission he began as he directs us from heaven.

Let’s Not Just Talk About the Holy Spirit, Let’s Ask for It (Jn 14:15-21)

Jesus, at the last supper strengthened his disciples, the early church, to do their mission while He goes before us to heaven at the Ascension. Jesus assures us of the reality of heaven, and of our one day, sharing with him in eternal joy. But this hope of heaven is not meant to escape from this world and it’s troubles, but rather to fully engage us to labor and share in the mission of Christ helping to bring about the kingdom here on earth. 

Following The Good Shepherd Leads to Our Vocation (Jn 10:1-10)

Given all the possible roads, we can travel in life, how can we find the path that leads to the fullness of life? Well, the good news is that we have a Good Shepherd who wants to lead us down the path to the fullness of life. But if Jesus is the Shepherd, that makes us the sheep. Sometimes we don’t like to think of ourselves as sheep, because we think they are stupid. But when we have a Good Shepherd, who knows us better than ourselves, and loves us more than we can love ourselves, why not follow him? So let us be at least as smart as those stupid sheep and follow The Good Shepherd . 😇
